Transmission Troubles?
Is your Mercedes acting like the transmission is failing? The most common problem is the electronic gear shifter causing the transmission to go into limp home mode. This means that the transmission will be stuck in third gear, it will be very sluggish and you may have a check engine light on. This is commonly diagnosed as a failed transmission. With the proper tooling though we can diagnose and repair your car for of what you would pay at the dealership. Typically what we find is that something was spilled into the electronic gear shift at some time. This creates corrosion and the electronic shift unit then tells the transmission computer that you have selected first gear rather than D for drive.
The second most common problem is a failed conductor plate inside the transmission. This is almost always misdiagnosed. Without the Mercedes DAS scanner you would have no ability to get internal transmission readings and you would most certainly replace the whole transmission assembly. Bring it to someone who knows before coughing up thousands only to find out that the real problem was something simple.
We have been servicing Mercedes since 1974. In the early 1990s Mercedes believed that they had found a lifetime transmission fluid that would never have to be replaced. This was far from the case. The fluid did last the lifetime of the transmission because the transmission would die at 100k miles. You might have noticed they even removed the transmission dipstick so you can’t even check it. Well don’t worry, we have the computer to service your transmission and replace the fluid with the correct Mercedes Automatic Transmission Fluid. We have saved tons of transmission by performing this simple service. Even Mercedes themselves have made it scheduled maintenance on all of the newer Mercedes to replace the transmission fluid at 30k intervals.
